The juliet balcony is not really a balcony. It is a 'pretend' balcony which doesn't stick out from the building. They provide a safety barrier by means of the balustrades or railings at the front of the balcony with the major advantage that you can then have French windows or a patio door instead of a conventional window.

The main purpose of the juliet balcony however is safety – it protects a full height opening where a protection from fall is essential. The resident will feel safer and prefer to rest on a metal handrail rather than just glass. A steel handrail is really the best option as it is strong, economical and versatile.
